WINDSOR, Conn. – Community Health Resources (CHR), nonprofit behavioral healthcare provider, is thrilled to announce the 2025 Steam Train Half Marathon and Relay will take place on Sunday, March 30, at 10 a.m., at the Essex Steam Train & Riverboat in Essex, CT. All are invited to sponsor, volunteer, ride the train, or run!
The Steam Train Half Marathon and Relay is the only road race in the country where runners try to outrun a century-old Steam Train. Originally founded by Team Making a Difference (MAD), the Steam Train Half Marathon brings friends and family members from across the country together each year to support CHR.
Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit CHR and three local nonprofits: the Essex Public Library in Essex, the Deep River Fire Department, and The Nest Coffee House / A Little Compassion Inc.
There are several ways to get involved in this special event, including:
- Run: Register to run in the full Steam Train Half Marathon or as part of a relay.
- Sponsor: Review our sponsorship flyer and learn more by contacting Eliza Patterson, CHR’s Development & Communications Manager, at epatterson@chrhealth.org. The deadline for sponsors is Friday, February 28.

- Ride the Train: Spectators can ride along on the steam train for $25. Purchase your tickets via Essex Steam Train & Riverboat’s website today!
