Community Health Resources (CHR), the leading behavioral health provider in Central and Eastern Connecticut, recently announced the appointment of Steven H. Madonick, MD as the organization’s new Medical Director.

“I’m thrilled to be joining an organization with such a strong reputation for quality of care, which has developed a robust system of care that addresses all behavioral health needs in the community,” Dr. Madonick said.  “I look forward to sharing my expertise in young adult services, early psychosis, mood disorders, psychopharmacology and general mental health and substance use services to enhance CHR’s medical team and help address growing demands for services, especially related to healthcare reform.”

Dr. Madonick received his BS from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his MD from State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center.  He completed his Residency Training in Psychiatry with the New York University School of Medicine and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with Yale University School of Medicine.  Dr. Madonick has held positions with the Connecticut VA Healthcare System, Connecticut Mental Health Center, Yale Behavioral Health, Yale-New Haven Hospital, and the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital as a staff psychiatrist and Medical Director.  He currently holds Assistant Professor of Psychiatry positions with Yale University School of Medicine and the University of Connecticut Health Center.

For the past seven years Dr. Madonick has been at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital as the Founding Director of POTENTIAL Early Psychosis Program and Founding Medical Director, Young Adult Services.  He has served on the Executive Committee of the Institute of Living and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Hartford Hospital among others.  He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, and International Early Psychosis Association.

“Dr. Madonick brings many outstanding capabilities to CHR, including excellent leadership skills and clinical judgment, ingenuity and determination and a dedication to providing essential health services to those most in need in the community.  These are all qualities that we value here at CHR,” Gates said.
