Intensive Outpatient Mental Health and Recovery Programs & Support Group for People Living with Chronic Pain Added to CHR’s Bloomfield Location
New programs to help men and women grappling with mental health challenges, starting a new life without alcohol or drugs, or coping with chronic pain, are now being offered at Community Health Resources’ (CHR) Bloomfield office located at 693 Bloomfield Avenue.
CHR, the state’s most comprehensive behavioral healthcare agency, has offered outpatient counseling and support for individuals with mental health and substance use problems in Bloomfield for nearly 15 years. The new programs were developed to more directly meet the needs of the community, according to Stan Schapiro, LCSW, CHR’s Senior Vice President.
“Based on the needs of our clients, these programs were designed to help men and women achieve change and realize recovery. All of the programs are founded on evidence-based, proven models and are being led by highly trained behavioral health specialists,” he said.
Here are descriptions of the new programs:
- Intensive Outpatient Program/Mental Health: This provides a personalized approach for adults struggling with depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other illnesses. It offers a high level of care, with outpatient sessions spanning three hours per day for four weeks. Intensive Outpatient Programs are ideal for people in need of more concentrated therapy including those who are transitioning out of an inpatient or partial hospitalization program. Through the program, clients receive a thorough assessment and are given tools to reach recovery and find hope through group therapy, education about mental illnesses, cognitive and behavioral therapy, coping strategies and medical management. Of note, CHR encourages the involvement of family members, spouses or partners during the course of the program. Participants are also strongly encouraged to take advantage of small group workshops available at CHR that focus on issues such as job skills, managing anxiety and depression, and strategies for coping with life’s challenges.
- Intensive Outpatient Program/Recovery: This is intensive outpatient program is designed specifically for individuals who are just starting their recovery from alcohol or drug use. It involves three hour daily outpatient sessions over the course of four weeks. Special attention is placed on community support, relapse prevention and education, screening and more. For this program as well, CHR encourages the involvement of family members, spouses or partners.
- Chronic Pain Therapy Group: This group will meet weekly for 12 weeks to help men and women who are coping with chronic physical pain and want to improve their quality of life. The group will focus on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy to change negative thinking and will focus on aspects of wellness including emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual health.
Later this year, CHR’s Bloomfield office will introduce Accelerated Resolution Therapy program to help men and women dealing with a critical incident, such as exposure to an acute stressor or unresolved grief.
